How it all began....
My name is Pam Hayes and I have had an active interest in animals ever since I can remember. My first "job" was volunteering at our local animal shelter every weekend. I was the youngest of 5 children raised in a small town in Alaska, and the one who always brought the stray animals' home. It didn't matter to me whether they were tame or wild. I believed it was my duty to rehabilitate them and either return them to the wild, bury them if they did not survive, find them a loving home or convince my parents that we ought to keep "just one more"!
To this day I am still notorious for taking in a multitude of rescues & foster animals to rehab and re home, and yes...once in awhile they do join our family.
I am blessed to share my life and passion for these little dogs with my best friend and husband Tom. He is very understanding of my compassion and love of animals. While I am sure there are many, many times he would love to tell me “No” when I bring home another needy animal, he never does, he simply smiles while he listens to me “tell the story” of how it came to need “us”. Over the years we have had the pleasure of rehabilitating and finding wonderful homes for many pets, several are pictured on our site in the "fun photos" & "happy endings" pages.
My passion for animals has also influenced my career path; I have worked at an amazing 24-hour animal hospital, Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital in Snohomish, WA for the past six years and I loved going to work every day. Making a difference for our patients and clients was a daily blessing. Today I am still employed in the veterinary field but have moved into an office position with a supply company. I desperately miss working 'in the field' but am still lucky enough to do some fill in and relief work at Pilchuck.
I never intended to become a Chihuahua breeder, it was truly a fluke. Several years ago, I fell into an opportunity to own a beautiful "Little" Chihuahua whom I had fallen madly in love with, the condition...she was to produce a litter. I agreed but was terrified when the time actually came. I read everything I could get my hands on, talked to everyone I could find that had experience, had my "supplies" set up weeks in advance, and waited. I suppose it is like becoming a Grandma in some ways, as this little one was like a child to me. Well much to my amazement my 4 &1/2-lb. girl did great. She was the most amazing mom and produced 4 tiny puppies all as beautiful as her. She seemed to LOVE being a mom, and I LOVED being a Grandma. Once they were all grown and placed into their forever homes I knew I had been changed forever. I could not imagine my life, my home with out puppies, and I had created great new friendships along the way. I made the decision to dedicate myself to learning everything I could about this amazing little dog, I didn’t just want to ‘breed’ - I wanted to excel and make a difference, it had become my mission in life.
Today our passion and love for this breed continues to grow. We have come a long way since our first litter almost ten years ago, but our ultimate goal and dedication to breeding healthy, sound and beautiful Chihuahuas has never wavered. We now are very active with our breed club and entertain ourselves by attending as many dog shows as we can possibly squeeze into our schedules. Any given weekend is a new opportunity to load up the 5th wheel and hit the road. We have met so many wonderful, experienced people who continue to help guide us and teach more every day about our wonderful breed. This truly is a life long passion of mine and I am so blessed to be able live this life.
I hope you enjoy our website, it will continue to grow and mature as we do.
